A project that has been running since 2021 as part of the New Swiss Regional Policy (NRP) - financed by the Canton of Bern, the Swiss Confederation and own contributions - made it possible to consider setting up a foundation.
The International Centre for Traditional Irrigation (IZTB) was founded with the help of generous contributions from private donors, the Canton of Lucerne, the Swiss Foundation for Landscape Conservation, clevergie ag and the Oekonomisch Gemeinnützige Gesellschaft Bern (OGG). The OGG continues to support the IZTB.
The NRP project will continue until the end of 2025 and has been supplemented since summer 2023 by the project ‘Safeguarding the future of traditional irrigation as intangible cultural heritage’ supported by the Swiss Federal Office of Culture (BAK). Apart from the IZTB, the project is supported by the following four organisations (and the following persons):
- UNESCO-Chair of the University of Bern (Theresa Tribaldos)
- Swiss Foundation for Landscape Conservation (Karina Liechti)
- UNESCO World Heritage Swiss Alps Jungfrau-Aletsch (Myriam Roidt)
- Musée valaisan des Bisses (Gaëtan Morard)
